13 hot tips to spice up your copy

  1. Say more with less by cutting out all the fluff and deleting words you don't need.

    .

  2. Create an emotional connection with your audience. Not only does it help people to remember you but people buy from brands they know, like and trust.

  3. Be an evocative storyteller by making your readers feel like your friends — not just people you want to buy your product or service.

  4. Look for an unexploited angle or hook and use it to create an engaging narrative.

  5. Make your text skimmable - use numbers and bullet points where possible.

  6. If you confuse your reader, you lose them so keep your copy simple. For example, instead of explaining at length all the jazzy features and functionalities your product has, concentrate on telling the reader what they will get out of using it.

  7. Leverage your copy to connect with your target audience’s values.

  8. Whether writing an ad, blog post, article, or ebook, you want your headline to grab your reader’s attention. You can do this by including some eye-catching statistics or playing to their curiosity.

  9. Use your copy to humanise your brand and form stronger relationships with your customers. Being down to earth levels the playing field and appeals to customers. Suddenly, you’re not some business that’s only concerned with financial gain; you’re a friend who is caring, attentive, and accountable.

  10. Know your target market and speak directly to them — even at the risk of alienating other people. Remember, “If you try to appeal to everyone, you will appeal to no one.”

  11. Keep your copy punchy, throw in some humour for good measure, and make a memorable impression on your readers.

  12. Always use the word YOU & speak directly to ONE person.

  13. Write in the active voice where possible

The copy takeway - Great copy doesn’t live in isolation — imagery can, and should, be used as takeaway?part of the message. Not only will this make your copy more interesting and memorable, but it will also help readers build a clearer picture of the benefit you have to offer.
