Hello & welcome to this week’s Get Sh*t Done ⚡Newsletter.
Today, I want to introduce you to my favourite ‘Ooops I tripped’ storytelling trick that will boost your solopreneur sales.
⭐What is the ‘Ooops I tripped’ storytelling trick?
The ‘Oops I tripped’ storytelling hack is a marketing technique rooted in vulnerability and relatability.

Try ‘OOOPS I tripped’ storytelling for yourself and boost your solopreneur sales!
Instead of presenting a polished, "perfect" image, you lead with a mistake, a struggle, or an unpolished moment to immediately lower your audience’s guard.
In marketing terms, this is often referred to as The Vulnerability Loop or The Messy Middle.
🧠Why It Works (The Marketing Logic)
It works because instead of leading with how great you are, you lead with a moment where you weren’t!
Remember that most buyers are on edge and the second something feels like a sales pitch, they tense up.
But when you start with something that went a bit wrong like a wobble, a mistake, a mild faceplant, they relax. Because now you aren’t a marketer, you’re just an ordinary person like them who is prone to the odd c*ck up!
Don’t be afraid to add in a splash of humour either, which also lowers sales resistance.
Now for the the science bit:
Humanisation: It moves your brand from a "faceless commodity" to a "relatable human".
The Pratfall Effect: A psychological phenomenon where someone’s perceived attractiveness or likeability increases after they make a mistake, provided they are already seen as competent.
Breaking the "Hero" Complex: Many brands make the mistake of being the hero of the story. By "tripping," you position yourself as a guide who has been in the audience's shoes, making them the true hero of the journey.
✅How to Execute the Hack
Your audience doesn’t need a perfect expert. They need someone who says:
“Here’s where I messed this up - and here’s how you don’t have to.”

A real life example of ‘Ooops I tripped’ storytelling & YES the VA in the example is me!
That’s what builds trust, gets replies and boosts your sales.
Start with the Problem: Don't start with the win; start with the moment things went wrong or the frustration you felt.
The "Shift": Briefly describe the real, human moment where you learned something or found a solution.
The Result: Land on what is better now and the lesson that actually matters for your audience.
🌟Common Frameworks Using This Style
ABT (And–But–Therefore): Use "BUT" to introduce the "trip" (the conflict) before offering the "THEREFORE" (the resolution).
IAY (I And You): Share your "trip" ("I experienced this mistake...") and bridge it to the audience ("You've probably felt this too...").
