Ever wondered why your competitors are fully booked or their products are flying off the shelves like Surreal cereal?

It’s probably not because they’re more talented than you.

It’s probably because they understand Buyer Psychology better than you.

And they’re probably not afraid of being a bit wEiRd!

Understanding buyer psychology gets you ahead of the competition!

Most struggling solopreneurs focus on hacks, tools, algorithms and posting more.

The successful solopreneurs focus on trust, emotion, clarity, relatability and psychology. Because people buy based on emotion then justify with logic.

Which means the difference between smashing it and winging it is understanding humans better.

1. Sell the outcome - not the thing

Your clients only care about what changes after they pay you. For example, will they feel less stressed, have more free time, gain more customers or feel more confident?

Nobody wakes up desperate for “a strategy session.” They want the feeling on the other side of the problem you’re solving for them.

Most solopreneurs talk about what they do - website designer, social media manager, business coach BLAH BLAH BLAH….

And the thing is - nobody gives a monkeys about your job title.

2. Make buying feel safe

The solopreneurs smashing it make things easy peasy with a clear offer, obvious results, proof it works and a simple next step.

That’s not “marketing tactics.” That’s reducing anxiety and it makes a big difference.

A lot of offers feel weirdly hard to buy because they’re too vague, there’s too many steps, too much jargon and no social proof. And when people feel uncertain, they stall.

3. Get painfully specific

The people winning know exactly who they’re talking to – for example creative female founders who are neurodivergent.

They understand: what annoys them, what keeps them up at night, what they actually want and what language they use.

So when someone reads their website or emails, they think: “Ooooh - this person actually gets it.”

That feeling matters far more than most fancy funnels (although I do recommend having a simple sales funnel).

4. Sound like an actual human

Most content now is AI slop with no personality (although CopyBuddy -  my custom copywriting GPT for solopreneurs is trained to actually sound like a real human being!)

Successful solopreneurs have opinions, tell stories and show their personality.  It’s no wonder that many of the top content creators on LinkedIn are funny, weird and unhinged like Stephanie-J, Dave Harland, Lea Turner and Jillian Richardson etc.

5. Understand identity

Successful solopreneurs know how to talk to their customers and you can learn how to quickly and effectively use humour to create an emotional connection from brands like Surreal.

By the way, their cereal is pretty yummy 😋 but don’t take my word for it - try it for yourself!

They wouldn’t be seen dead saying “High-protein cereal.”,(B.O.R.I.N.G!🥱) but you will hear them say: “Cereal without cardboard sadness.”🤣 Which is funny because it’s soooo true.

Anyone who has forced themselves to eat a bowl of tasteless, “healthy” cereal immediately gets it.

Surreal even put a tiny dog on the box with a fake: “Have You Seen This Dog?”
notice which cracks me up, especially as I’m a dog lover!👇

Use humour in your solopreneur marketing like Surreal!

Yes it’s completely unnecessary and completely ridiculous. But it’s exactly why people remember the brand. That’s buyer psychology: specificity, recognition, humour & identify.

The product becomes memorable because the emotion becomes memorable.

6. Successful solopreneurs use tiny stories constantly

You don’t need to share dramatic founder stories, just small relatable moments.

Maybe you want to get something off your chest like a frustration, an awkward experience or a painfully accurate observation.

Storytelling works because humans remember feelings far more than information.

Which is why most “valuable content” gets forgotten immediately.

👉Get Sh*t Done Challenge - build a cereal box offer!

Cereal boxes sell emotion before ingredients. Your offer should too.

So this week’s challenge is to build a cereal box offer and share the results on LinkedIn!

Front of box - big promise, emotional outcome, identity signal.

Back of box - story, transformation, quick win & tiny CTA.

Inside the box - unexpected bonus, easter egg, delight moment.
